Tasmanians can now boat and fish more safely in central Tasmania, thanks to extended VHF radio coverage.
TasNetworks and its telecommunications subsidiary 42-24 have joined forces with Tas Maritime Radio (TMR) to link a new base station at Brady’s Sugarloaf.
About 85 per cent of the Highlands Lakes region now has VHF coverage (between the Barren Tier and Brady’s Sugarloaf stations). Three years ago, there was virtually no coverage.
The improvement helps protect lives, and make a much-loved activity safer for tens of thousands of Tasmanians.
It also supports tour operators and fishing guides, who can now take customers into more remote areas with adequate radio protection.
